From humble beginnings in a garage in upstate New York, Corporate Sound president and owner Joe Klein has spent 38 years immersing himself in the audio industry. He started off in high school, playing guitar and providing live sound for several bands as well as teching for local theater productions and concerts. After graduation, he attended Alfred State College and worked toward a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Throughout college, Joe performed in his own cover band and volunteered at local concerts. While providing free labor to the sound companies running the concerts, Joe watched and listened carefully, learning as much as he could from the more experienced techs. During this time, he was able to work with such artists as ZZ Top, Chuck Mangione, Jo Jo Gunne and The James Cotton Band.
After graduation, Joe spent a few years working a day job and performing in regional bands in upstate New York. In 1978, he jumped into the Disco Craze and started working as a DJ for numerous schools in the area, seeing the opportunity to build up his live sound equipment inventory. In 1980, Joe accepted a job offer in Massachusetts and packed up to move to the Boston area. While working full time for a high tech electronics company, he spent his nights and weekends pursuing his passion for live audio. He switched from DJ work to providing live audio services for numerous local bands and colleges and spent several years building up a client base within the local music scene. In 1984, during the days of the computer company "big parties", he expanded his client base to include the corporate concert market and shifted his efforts toward building a full time business. From there, he started diversifying into other live sound events and providing superior solutions for:
- corporate meetings, conferences and conventions
- athletic events
- civic events
- college commencements and convocations
- black tie events
- theater productions
- political rallies
While the dream of working and touring in the large concert environment stayed with Joe through his early days of working in live audio, the desire to settle down in one spot and build something more permanent was too strong to resist. Joe and his wife chose the Attleboro area as the perfect spot to build their family as well as the business we know today as Corporate Sound, Inc. and, with Joe's loyal customer base and solid name in the community, he's never looked back.
In the 80's he also branched into working with Big Bands during the swing resurgence, supplying audio for such bands as Glenn Miller Swing orchestra, Guy Lombardo orchestra and the White Heat Swing orchestra.
Corporate Sound has just recently moved into a larger, newer facility to better service our growing rental business and better support our existing special event production services division. Even though the name says "Corporate", we pride ourselves on being very accessible to our customers. Our attitude is that customers don't judge you by how much you know, but by how much you care.
